3. Fry's Dead Brother
Back into Fry's past for another kick to sack. Goody. During 'The Luck of The Fryrish', Fry is going through a series of bad luck and blames such circumstances on losing his lucky charm from 1,000 years ago, a seven-leaf clover. He goes searching for it, back to the neighbourhood where he once lived. Throughout the episode, we see flashbacks of him and his brother Yancy. It's a long-running theme with the two kids that Yancy would often steal Fry's expressions, style and eventually, it would appear, his clover. Fry finds footage from the past of a figure who looks very much like Yancy, now using the name Philip Fry, with the clover in his suit lapel, who rose to fortune and fame in the past as an astronaut, Fry's ambition. Furious that Yancy had not only stolen his clover, but also his dream, Fry goes to where his brother is buried with the aim to dig him up and take back his lucky charm. However, when he gets there he realises that the Philip Fry buried there is in fact Yancy's son, Philip, named after his long-lost uncle who he "misses everyday". It's a brilliantly orchestrated twist, a total reversal of the plot with a perfect combination of sweetness and melancholy.
