Futurama: 10 Most Emotional Moments

4. Leela's Million Year Message

As mentioned before, every emotion is magnified in Futurama because of the hugeness of the ideas. Devotion and love is so much more palpable and affecting when seen to span vast swathes of space and time and that's what places this entry, from the episode "The Late Philip J. Fry" so high. Fry has been running late. Often. He and Leela make arrangements for a date in an ancient cavern, and she warns him not to be late. Before he departs he agrees to help the professor with his time machine that only travels forward in time. There's an accident, because of course there is, and they end up going millions of year into the future, with no way back. During the journey, Fry is able to get a message to Leela, and it reaches her deep into her life, long after Fry disappeared. She returns to the cavern where they were supposed to meet and shoots a series of holes in the ceiling, which start leaking water. Millions of years in the future, Fry happens upon this very cavern and finds that the water has calcified into stalagmites that spell the message: "Dear Fry, Our time together was short, but it was the best time of my life. Leela x" Oof.
