Futurama: 10 Most Underrated Episodes
1. Cold Warriors
One of the greatest things about Futurama, and what sets it apart from other animated comedies, it its ability to evoke real emotion with genuinely moving scenes. 'The Luck of the Fryrish' and 'Jurassic Bark' are arguably the best examples of this, but they certainly aren't the only ones.
Every now and then the show delves into Fry's relationship with his parents, and while 'Game of Tones' is lauded for its touching moment between him and his mother, the moment he shares with his father in 'Cold Warriors' is somewhat unfairly overlooked.
The episode is strong from start to finish, and has become scarily relevant in 2020, as New New Yorkers find themselves fighting an unknown virus, with Planet Express being forced under quarantine to prevent the further spread of the common cold. With flashbacks to Fry experimenting with the virus in the 20th century, the episode builds to one of the only moments where his dad showed him any affection.
Yancy Sr. was always portrayed as being far too hard on his youngest son, and never showed any emotion, but at the end of this episode he finally tells Fry how much he loves and cares about him. This is every bit as emotional and meaningful as 'Game of Tones' and deserves to be held in a similar regard.
