Futurama: 10 Worst Episodes

10. 30% Iron Chef

The Episode: So it turns out that Bender wants to be a chef. The only problem is that, being a robot, he's incapable of taste, and therefore can't cook. Bender goes on a quest to become the Iron Chef, pursuing tutelage from a Yoda-like master chef before entering the contest. He eventually wins, only to discover that the €œsecret ingredient€ he has been using is watered-down LSD.

Why It Sucks: The idea that Bender, a robot without a sense of taste, would like cooking is an entertaining idea. However, there wasn't really enough behind it to merit an entire episode. It felt more like the sort of thing that would be a recurring character trait, but was only featured in fleeting detail after this episode.

The plot also relied heavily on the audience€™s familiarity with the Iron Chef television show. Although it's a popular show in America, it hardly has the same reputation outside of the States. The lacklustre subplot following Zoidberg€™s accidental destruction of Professor Farnsworth€™s spaceship in a bottle didn€™t do the episode any favours either. The whole thing was incredibly disjointed and meandering, and as a result created one of the most forgettable episodes of the show.

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
