Futurama: The Planet Express Crew Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Professor Farnsworth
Running a company is a difficult task, especially when you are 160 years old, yet this old kook does a great job of it (mostly).
Hubert J. Farnsworth is a big part of Futurama as he is the chief executive officer of Planet Express, whilst also being an inventor. He takes the mad scientist concept and plays well with it, as he's funny, kooky and frequently very dangerous.
The old inventor archetype is something we have seen many times on TV, not even limited to the sci-fi genre. However, Professor Farnsworth adds something new to the mix with his brand of eccentricity, as his inventions are genuinely interesting, but also entirely redundant. Some highlights have to be the smelloscope and what-if machine, that are both fun but pose no real usefulness.
The role is incredibly funny and played to perfection by Billy West. He has a distinct identity within the show as one of the main drivers of the plot, and further from this has experienced a decent amount of character development ensuring that his limited jokes about being old don't grow stale.
