Game Of Thrones: 10 Biggest Casting Mistakes

7. The 2 Actors Who Played The Mountain

Why It Was A Mistake: The producers actually made the right choice initially before subsequently messing it up. There isn't much to the character of Ser Gregor 'The Mountain' Clegane other than being incredibly tall, incredibly big, and incredibly scary. The first actor, Conan Stevens, had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts and the role was recast with Ian Whyte, who was soon replaced with Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. Whyte's short stint as the character was nothing more than standing around trying to look scary and failing. Björnsson may certainly have the physical size of The Mountain down but his limited acting ability and youth proved to be detrimental to the character. Not only is Björnsson's line readings wooden and stiff, but he is only in his 20's and thus far too young to be the The Hound's older brother. The youthful Björnsson looks more like a massive and cuddly teddy bear than the brutal murder and rapist that the character is meant to be. Who Should€™ve Been Cast: Conan Stevens, the original actor who played the Mountain was absolutely perfect for the role. He had the physical presence needed, he could convincingly fight, he was of an appropriate age relative to The Hound, and he was just straight up intimidating to watch.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
