Game Of Thrones: 10 Characters Killed At The PERFECT Time
3. Theon Greyjoy
Of all the entries on this list, this is arguably the most tragic, despite it being the right way for the show to go.
From his decision to take Winterfell and threaten the lives of Bran and Rickon Stark, Theon Greyjoy journeys into the depths of his own villainy and suffers more than most do on Game Of Thrones (and that's saying something).
As he tries to put his past misdeeds behind him, he then goes on a full redemption arc, culminating in him deciding to put himself between Bran and the Night King in the season eight epic The Long Night.
Sadly, Theon had to die as there was nothing else for him to do. While many fans were likely hoping he would go on to help Yara rule the Iron Islands, Theon was really a Stark at heart and his role in helping his family was done.
He had fulfilled his purpose in protecting Bran, completed his arc of redemption (one of the best on the show in this writer's opinion) and, even though he knew he had no chance of survival against the leader of the dead, he goes out in a full blaze of glory.
