Thousands of years before Aegon the Conqueror invaded Westeros, the many Kings and Queens of the Seven Kingdoms were left to their own vices.

One of the many legendary Brandon Starks to have emerged from this era was the King in the North, Brandon the Shipwright. Much like Arya, he sought to explore outside of Westeros and took to going on several voyages at sea.

Eventually, he would take up the impossible challenge of sailing west of Westeros through what is known as the Sunset Sea. Countless sailors had attempted the same journey before and none were successful. Those that did return told legends of krakens, leviathans, and even sea dragons so good luck Arya.

King Brandon was one of those unlucky ones that never made it home and was forever lost at sea. So his son, also named Brandon, did the only rational thing he could, he burnt down all of the northern shipyards and remaining ships in his grief.

The newly named Brandon the Burner's actions would have lasting effects right up until the Battle of the Five Kings when the Manderley's offered to build Robb a fleet as the North lacked any naval might.
