Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Powerful Characters Going Into Season 7

9. Petyr Baelish

Game Of Thrones Night King Daenerys
HBO

More than pretty much any other character on the show, Petyr Baelish is consumed with power, and will stop at nothing in his ambition to have it.

His ultimate aim is, of course, to sit atop the Iron Throne. It's the picture he has in his head - whether he really wants Sansa by his side or not is moot - and the goal every move is supposed to move him closer towards.

As it stands, he doesn't hold as much power as he'd like to, because Jon Snow was named King in the North, as opposed to Sansa becoming Queen. On the other hand, though, he is Lord of the Vale, controls a vast, strong army and an impenetrable fortress, and will hold some sway after his role in the Battle of the Bastards - without his intervention, Jon would never have won.

However, while his climb up the ladder - he comes from a nothing house - has been impressive, he's unlikely to reach the very top. His efforts to seduce Sansa could come to naught, and that may not end well for Baelish.
