This was back when the show was engaging moment to moment. With every decision a character made having consequences that would reverberate for seasons to come, it was a stark change to later episode.

Opening up with a fierce and fiery duel, fans saw the Hound cut down Beric Dondarrion in a fit of desperate rage, only for Thoros to resurrect Beric with fire magic. Of course, it was all foreshadowing for Jon Snow's revival in season six.

Rob Stark was put in another tricky situation and viewers felt his inner turmoil, all thanks to Richard Madden giving some of his best performances. Torn between upholding the law and seeing his army break apart, Rob made the decision that only his sense of honour would allow. The scene of Rob Stark executing Lord Karstark in the rain was so full of sinister foreboding that fans dreaded to think what the repercussions might be.

John and Ygrite got their moment of passion in that cave...

And finally, fans got Jaime and Brienne in that bath tub. Man, was that good writing. The guy who started off as one of the most reviled characters suddenly becoming far more complex than anyone initially thought - that's the kind of character depth that made the show so compelling.
