Game Of Thrones: 10 Reasons Why A Prequel Series Would Be Awesome

1. A Beautiful Tragedy

There€™s not a whole lot of beauty to Game of Thrones. Sure, there€™s enough scenery and costume pornography to enjoy whenever there€™s an establishing shot not filled with rotting corpses, but the narrative at this point is far from pretty. There€™s nothing wrong with the ugliness; the upheaval of Westeros has been so absolute that any amount of attractive aesthetics would jar with audience expectations. Still, a sense of total hopelessness pervades the plot from time to time as the status quo seems to grow progressively more awful with each episode. The entire show is one big, drawn-out, terrifying tragedy. In a good way. Unlike the turmoil caused by the War of the Five Kings, the tragedy of Westeros following Robert€™s Rebellion has a sort of desolate beauty to it. The good guys won, but none of the victors had fought in pursuit of what spoils they received. Any sense of political stability was forever gone. An entire generation lost their innocence in ways that would effect them for the rest of their lives, and even the beautiful bonds formed between comrades-in-arms were tainted by the very experiences that forged them. There is a whole tale to tell with Robert€™s Rebellion, from the moment that Rhaegar absconded with Lyanna to the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty to the showdown at the Tower of Joy. The deaths of the heroes of one generation brought about the births of the heroes of the next. The stage was set, seeds were sown, and problems left unsolved. The beautiful tragedy of the story of Robert€™s Rebellion is one that deserves to be told, and a prequel series to Game of Thrones would be the perfect medium to do so.
