Game Of Thrones: 10 Reasons Why A Prequel Series Would Be Awesome

2. Incorporate Book Material

Even more than showing what had been told on Game of Thrones, a prequel series would have the opportunity to incorporate some of the greatest passages from the novels that didn't make it on screen. Not only do these chunks of the books have the potential to influence the rest of the saga, but they were so phenomenally well-constructed that it seems almost shameful that they did not fit into the show. The final battle between Robert Baratheon and Rhaegar Targaryen on the Trident would be legendary, and the sack of King's Landing by Lannister forces would provide an interesting contrast to the Lannister defense of the city from Season 2. Perhaps the most significant book material that could be incorporated, however, is the tale of the Tower of Joy. Seen solely via Ned Stark's fever dream in the first book, the passages describe the last stand of three heroes of the Kingsguard in defense of the tower that housed the dying Lyanna Stark in Dorne at the end of Robert's Rebellion. The sequence is filled with such gorgeous imagery that a prequel series would be worth the effort for the Tower of Joy alone.
