6. A Dance With Dragons Part II - Victarion Greyjoy

game of thrones Mance Rayder
HBO

The second character to journey half way across the world to dance with a dragon is Victarion Greyjoy. The brother of Balon Greyjoy opposes his other brother Euron 'Crow's Eye' and his niece Asha (Yara in the show) at the Kingsmoot on Old Wyk, the result of which is the same in both the show and the books. Euron is crowned king.

The Crow's Eye's role in the show is much larger in the books, where he appears just a handful of times and is otherwise only mentioned by one of the other Greyjoys. Instead of sailing for Meereen to meet Daenerys himself, he sends Victarion to do the dirty work him and return his bride-to-be to the Iron Islands.

Victarion however, has other plans. Sick of his brother's antics, he does not believe Euron deserves to sit the Seastone Chair, and means to take Daenerys for his own wife. On his way to Meereen the new king's brother brings aboard a red priest of R'hllor, who manages to heal a grievous wound that his maester could not.

The last we see of Victarion he is still at sea, now paying heed to the priest's visions, even going so far as to sacrifice seven slaves to appease the red god.
