Game Of Thrones: 10 Storylines That Should Have Been Cut

10. Sam At The Citadel

When season 7 kicked off with Sam in the Citadel basically continuing his Neville Longbottom transformation further and seemingly becoming a maester to be invaluable to Jon Snow's attempts to take down the Night King, it all seemed fine.

Even the self-indulgent poop montage was enjoyable for comedy effect, but the rest of his time there proved almost entirely pointless when he once again left of his own accord to "be a better man". It felt like we were being set up for something huge - like the Valyrian steel reveal or something similar, but there is nothing he learned there that will help Jon.

He learned that academics are stuffy and men of inaction (but he knew that) and he learned that he's a nice guy (but he knew that too). He basically went on holiday to a poop farm.

And sure, he cured Jorah, but it was done in such a way that there was absolutely no need for it to happen at the Citadel. It's not like putting some naturally occurring ingredients on him and peeling him qualifies as legitimately dangerous information. And the only key information he did get - that Rhaegar got an annulment - went unnoticed and wouldn't matter until Jon already knew he was a Targaryen anyway.

So basically, the information didn't need to be found that way.
