Game Of Thrones: 10 Storylines That Should Have Been Cut

9. Dany The Fair Ruler

Daenerys Targaryen Season 4
HBO

Once Dany emerged from the fire with her dragons and set out on her conquest of the Seven Kingdoms, we could all be forgiven for thinking that she'd be heading straight to King's Landing after uniting the Unsullied, the Second Sons and the Dothraki (albeit slow enough for her dragons to grow to imposing, battle-ready size).

Instead, we were sent to Meereen for what felt like an agonising eternity as Dany learnt the value of diplomatic rule and basically had all of her power diluted in the interest of teaching her that impulsiveness is actually sometimes more useful than trying to rule fairly.

But what exactly did she learn here that she hasn't more valuable learned in the first half of season 7, without us having to endure Phantom Menace levels of political fetishism? The answer, you'll not be shocked to learn, is very little. We did learn that she wasn't really suited to rule in a hostile environment, which was important at the end, but nobody paid any attention anyway and still complained when she turned her ire on King's Landing.
