Game Of Thrones: 10 Things From The TV Show That WON'T Be In The Winds Of Winter

9. Beric Dondarrion Rides To The Wall

Game Of Thrones
HBO

In The Show:

The Lightning Lord is initially dispatched by Eddard Stark to bring the infamous Gregor Clegane to justice. He proceeds to spent the vast majority of his time getting killed and revived courtesy of his red priest buddy Thoros of Myr.

All this mostly fits with his parallel journey in the books, short of a few trysts with unexpected characters in the Riverlands. However, in season 7, the two streams began to diverge pretty wildly where Beric was concerned. Dondarrion turns up at The Wall with Thoros and none other than The Hound in tow, seeking to do grand battle with the cold, dark forces (easy there, Littlefinger) arising in the North. He ends up joining Jon Snow in a bonkers mission to kidnap a wight, and even manages to survive as far as the Battle of Winterfell before finally dying his last death.

Why It WON’T Happen In Winds:

Dondarrion has officially used up all of his continues, as of the most current book in the series. When readers last heard about Beric, he was said to have given up his life (permanently, this time!) in order to resurrect the desiccated corpse of Catelyn Stark. We have him to thank then, for the grisly and vengeful Lady Stoneheart, who at last report was purging the Riverlands of foes, mostly Freys.

If Jon Snow does wind up leading a wight hunt beyond the Wall, then, one thing’s for sure: the Lightning Lord won’t be present.
