Game Of Thrones: 10 Times Fans Totally Overreacted To Book Changes

8. Brienne Fights The Hound

Brienne has been a total badass throughout the show, yet some book fans have actually taken issue with that.

This complaint first popped up in Season 3 when Brienne is able to defeat Jaime, and some readers complained this made Jaime, one of the best fighters in Westeros, look weak. Later, Brienne fights and defeats the Hound, a scene which never occurred in the books. This left a lot of Hound fans outraged, saying Brienne would never be able to beat him.

But why not? First of all, at the time the Hound was seriously injured, and he was also caught off guard by Brienne. But also, both characters are strong, capable fighters. They’re pretty evenly matched throughout the battle, and after a long fight, Brienne is just barely able to overcome the Hound. And why shouldn’t she?

The show up until this point has worked hard to establish Brienne as a strong female character. Remember when she beat Loras, another one of Westeros' greatest fighters? Or when she quickly defeats three Stark men who recognize Jamie? It seems to make perfect sense that she’d be able to take on the Hound, and even if you accept that it isn’t totally realistic, any opportunity to give a female character some sort of victory in this show is certainly welcome.
