Game Of Thrones Season 6: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Blood Of My Blood'

1. The Ending (And General Inconclusiveness)

Game of Thrones Drogon Daenerys
HBO

This episode did a lot of table-setting, but it ended before the drinks had even been poured out.

Although I enjoyed the appearance of Drogon, for reasons outlined previously, Daenerys' speech felt hollow. Sure, it was supposed to echo a similar rousing speech from Khal Drogo, but it felt a bit tacked-on to the end of this episode, especially compared to her epic, empowering 'unburnt' scene at the climax of episode 4 (also it made Dany sound less like a ruler, and much more like the conqueror Daario says she is).

That wasn't the only issue though, as lots of threads were left hanging this week. Sure, Thrones is all about slowly moving its pieces, and it's something I love about the show, but here too many of the storylines felt like there was still more to come within this particular episode, rather than just setting things up. It'll be slightly moot of episode 7 comes and knocks it out of the park, but for now the episode is good but, going back to the table-setting analogy, still leaves you hungry.
