Game Of Thrones Season 6: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Blood Of My Blood'
7. The High Sparrow's Surprise
Between the High Sparrow's fanaticism, Jaime Lannister's bloodthirst, and Mace Tyrell's incredible headwear, I was all ready for the promised fight (which has been teased since the first Season 6 trailer) to break out on the steps of the Sept of Baelor here.
Instead we got the twist that no one would be dying today, as Tommen has decided to align himself with the Faith. It's maybe not that surprising a moment, given Tommen has already been shown to be pretty weak-minded and easily manipulated (seriously, who keeps allowing the High Sparrow a one-on-one audience with him?), but it is an effective one, with even Olenna stunned and admitting defeat.
The best part of this is that it elevates the High Sparrow, already an excellent villain, into an even higher playing field, and one where he certainly has the advantage. He's difficult not to hate, even if he's not wrong in everything he says, and it's just building up to that moment when he does finally get what he deserves and making it all the sweeter, but also less straightforward and thus a bit more exciting.
