Game Of Thrones: 10 Ways Season 5 Was Better Than The Books

1. Jaime & Bronn

A lot of people were disappointed with the Sand Snakes storyline this season, but sending Jaime to Dorne was a pretty nice change, even if a few of the episodes were a bit meandering.

In the books, Jamie’s storyline at this point involves him being sent on a quest to Riverrun. This is one of the last places in the seven kingdoms that’s still loyal to Robb Stark, so Jaime is sent there to get them under control. This isn’t completely boring, but on paper very little actually happens here, with Jaime just dealing with some political machinations for the entire book. Not much to do for one of the show’s best actors.

That might work on the page, but the showrunners understood that this would make for a horribly boring show storyline. Viewers needed an introduction to Dorne, and so rather than just throwing us into this new setting full of brand new characters, the showrunners offered a pretty compelling storyline about Jaime being sent on a mission to rescue his daughter. And of course with the accompaniment of Bronn, an excellent way to give a fan favorite character more to do.

The Dorne storyline definitely wasn’t the strongest of the season, but it at least kept Jaime busy with something kind of interesting, and pairing him with Bronn made for some pretty fun moments.
