Game Of Thrones: 10 Ways Season 5 Was Better Than The Books

2. The Return Of Jaqen H'ghar

Arya's plot in the House of Black and White was often pretty hard to follow and just flat out bizarre, but bringing back Jaqen H'ghar certainly did help things.

He was a fan favorite character back in Season 2, and so it was a great moment when he reveals himself to Arya and then guides her through the House of Black and White. In the books, Jaqen never makes a return and isn’t in Braavos at all, so everyone Arya meets here is brand new.

Arya’s storyline in the books isn’t exactly missing anything without Jaqen, but giving us another familiar face in the show helped provide some sense of normality here. Having Arya wander into this mysterious place and having her being totally surrounded by new, unknown people would have just made things even more strange and incomprehensible. It was both nice to see a familiar face back, and this also gave viewers some anchor to reality when all the weird visions and face changing sequences were confusing everyone.
