Game Of Thrones: 10 Worst Changes From The Books
7. Changing Talisa Stark's (Jeyne Westerling) Back Story
The show made a huge error altering the back story of this character. In the books, Robb does marry another women, pissing-off the Freys and dooming his cause. But she was not a healer from the Free Cities, she was a noble women from Westeros whose family were Lannister bannermen.
This was how the Red Wedding was orchestrated. Jeyne's (Talisa) family feign loyalty to Robb while secretly helping Lord Tywin plan the massacre. Although Jeyne doesn't have anything to do with the betrayal, it's clear her family used her to get close to the Starks. The entire Robb-marriage-plot-line is all the more tragic knowing it was manipulated from the start. Jeyne does not attend the wedding in the books, which also has huge implications for the future plot.
In the books, the Blackfish (Robb's uncle) is still alive and flopping. It's believed he's rallied many Stark forces who escaped the wedding, and is leading a guerrilla war against the Lannister. Jeyne is also believed to be pregnant. Currently she's under Lannister captivity, but Martin has hinted that the Blackfish will rescue her. Robb's unborn child will then be the symbol for the North to rally around. If this happens, it's far less likely the North will be willing to submit to Dany, even with Jon Snow's support.
