Game Of Thrones: 10 Worst Characters Who Appeared After Season One
7. Randyll Tarly
The menacing father of fan-favourite character Samwell, viewers were warned throughout the series about the terrifying personality of Randyll Tarly, the man who had threatened to murder his own son if he didn't abandon his family name and head off to The Wall to take the black.
What an underwhelming disappointment it was then, when we were finally introduced to this supposed menacing foe in the Season Six episode, 'Blood Of My Blood' and found him to be nothing more than a bitter man screaming at his family about a warped sense of honour from the dinner table.
Sadly, he comes across more as an abusive husband and father over any sort of frightening tyrant. Maybe that was a deliberate portrayal on the part of the showrunners, but Tarly gets so little screen time we don't really get any opportunity to explore the man behind this one-dimensional persona.
Arguably, his best moment does come with his death at the hands of Daenerys, when he speaks of honour and his loyalty to Westeros after refusing to bend the knee, but we were so little acquainted with the character the emotional weight of the scene simply didn't resonate.
