Then

Although he was shipped off to Winterfell against his will, Theon surely enjoyed growing up in the North. As Ned Stark's ward he became best friends with Robb, and was a cocksure, arrogant young man with a face and attitude you wanted to give a good slap to. However, he ended the year proclaiming Robb as his King after the execution of Ned Stark.

Now

Theon has come a hell of a long way since then. Not long after proclaim Robb his King he returned home to the Iron Islands, swore his allegiance to his house, and betrayed the Starks. He took command of Winterfell, pretended to kill Bran and Rickon, and then went from cocksure to c*ck-less after being taken prisoner by Ramsay Snow.

After a few seasons as a prisoner, in which he was completely and utterly broken down to becoming Reek, who was unrecognisable from the Theon we once knew, he eventually managed to find his way back. He helped Sansa escape, made his way home, and then escaped from his uncle Euron with sister Yara. He's gone from someone you hate to someone you pity to someone you can root for, and will probably die a hero.
