Before her appearance in Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken, Lady Olenna Tyrell had gone 11 episodes without making an appearance in Game of Thrones. She was last seen in Season 4 episode Oathbreaker, after deciding to head back to Highgarden, but not before the reveal that it was her who was responsible for killing Joffrey. That was a hell of a note to end on, but it was still great to see her return this season. After Loras was arrested, she headed straight for a showdown with Cersei, who she (correctly) assumed was behind it. The exchange between the pair is as entertaining as youd expect, as every word is delivered with an acid-tongue and dripping with subtext, reaching its peak with the exchange: Cersei: "Well, if it isn't the famous tart-tongued Queen of Thorns." Olenna: "Well, if it isn't the famous tart, Queen Cersei." She later attempts to use her powers of persuasion on the High Sparrow, leading to a conversation that starts off innocently, as the pair discuss ailing body parts, but quickly becomes a game of political chess that even the Queen of Thorns cannot win, although she gives it a good go. Thanks to a gift from Littlefinger she does again get her way in the end, with information that leads to Cersei's downfall. Once again her appearances were brief but very memorable, and hopefully it wont be another 11 episodes before we next see her.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
