Game Of Thrones: 15 Early Predictions For Season 8
11. Ghost Is Killed
If there's one thing that should have legitimately pissed you off about Game Of Thrones season 7, it was the treatment - or entire lack of - of Jon Snow's loyal direwolf Ghost. The creature, which sat by his body when he was killed, simply dropped off the face of the Earth, thanks to the decision to cut the scene in which he and Jon share a farewell before the latter heads to Dragonstone.
In logical terms, Ghost should have gone with Jon beyond The Wall: he's a hugely useful weapon, and one that can actually walk himself, rather than having to be carried, so the benefits are doubly. The idea that he would be left at Winterfell (without so much as a hint that he's on security detail for the Stark sisters or something) was just preposterous.
In the final season, expect it to get worse. None of the direwolves have fared well, with Nymeria the only other one alive (but totally out of the picture) and knowing the show's well-publicised difficulties with rendering the creatures convincingly, it seems they'll take any opportunity to stop having to try. That probably spells disaster for Ghost, who could get the Hedwig treatment early on to save having to bother with the effects in the big battles.
That also probably suggests that another appearance by Nymeria is unlikely too. Nice idea though it was.
