Game Of Thrones: 15 Theories Better Than What We Got
9. The Prince That Was Promised
Religion played a big part in the Game of Thrones story, and with it came several important prophecies. One of the biggest came from those who worshiped the God, R'hllor, and revolved around the Prince that was Promised.
The prophecy told of the mighty warrior, Azor Ahai, being reborn into the world, with his flaming sword, Lightbringer, to lead the living in the war against the dead. Melisandre preached this more than anyone in the show, but could never seem to put her faith in the right character.
After being ultimately let down by Stannis, the Red Woman put her faith in Jon Snow, even then hinting that the Prince that was Promised could have been a Princess that was Promised. What was to stop the reincarnated warrior taking the form of a woman?
The theories of who Azor Ahai would be revealed to be ranged across many characters, most frequently Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, but the strongest theory revolved around the former. Thanks to Jon's connection to death, with the Red God seemingly choosing to bring him back to life, the King in the North would have made the perfect incarnation of the Prince that was Promised. Why else would R'hllor have acted as he did, bringing Aegon Targaryen, a true Prince of Westeros, back to life?
