The most popular fan interpretation of the title 'A Song of Ice and Fire' is that it refers to Jon and Daenerys as two sides of the same coin - the two heroes who will come together to change the Seven Kingdoms for better or worse. And seeing Dany meet Jon for the first time is something fans of both the books and the show have been anticipating since the series premiered back in 2011.

And the scene itself did not disappoint. It was as stiflingly awkward as we could hope, since the Starks and Targeryans have so much bad blood between them.

In a season that was so rushed on a plot level, it was thrilling to see the writers let this scene play like a drawn out standoff. It's intermittently tense, hilarious, and cathartic to watch the power play between the two. It really feels like Dany finally met her match, since Jon is the first ruler she's ever met with a moral backbone as strong as hers.
