Game Of Thrones: 18 Terrible Ideas That Were Great To Watch

7. Fake-Killing Bran And RickonGame Of Thrones Theon Boys Poor Theon is on a roll in season 2. Just when it seems that he might have hit rock bottom and is physically incapable of sinking any lower, he goes and does something like fake-killing the two youngest (and previously safest) Stark children. Bran and Rickon, held captive by the Iron Islanders, appear to escape Winterfell with the help of Osha and Hodor. Understandably miffed that his prepubescent hostages had managed to escape, Theon sets out with a search party to retrieve the boys and maintain his reputation. When the search proves fruitless and Theon begins to panic once more, he decides on what is totally the most sensible idea: murder and burn the bodies of two boys more or less the same size as Bran and Rickon and present them as the Stark boys. This is so short-sighted a plan that it's hard to believe that even Theon would consider it. If he hadn't already incurred the wrath of the entire North (and Robb) with his taking of Winterfell, the murder of two helpless Stark children would have sealed the deal. Besides, he really ought to have realized that Bran and Rickon were bound to turn up somewhere sometime and be very obviously not dead. In the long run, his decision to fake-kill Bran and Rickon was much more likely to destroy his image than strengthen it. Nevertheless, the scene in which he hangs the burnt bodies (at which point we don't actually know that the boys are still alive) off of the walls of Winterfell before Maester Luwin and all of the other castle inhabitants marks the true point of no return for Theon Greyjoy. He was lost when he killed Ser Rodrik, but his fate was sealed when he fake-killed those boys.
