Game Of Thrones: 20 Awesome Characters Who Were TOTALLY Screwed Over

One year on... it still hurts.

It's been over a year since Game of Thrones reached its highly disappointing conclusion, but the pain of seeing a story we all fell in love with so much end so poorly hasn't faded with time.

Game of Thrones was full of fascinating characters with amazing story arcs that were built up over seven seasons and... none of it went anywhere. None of it really meant anything in the end and many beloved characters didn't get the conclusions they so badly deserved.

In fairness, Jorah (Iain Glen), Sansa (Sophie Turner), Theon (Alfie Allen), The Hound (Rory McCann), Davos (Liam Cunningham) and Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) did get mostly satisfying endings, but they are in the minority.

Thanks to the appallingly rushed pacing and increasingly hit-or-miss writing, this is a show that ultimately betrayed many of its characters and as a result, the ending of this once-brilliant program is pretty much a showcase of how not to end a TV show.

If he ever actually finishes the books, hopefully George R.R. Martin will give some of these characters their deserved endings. With quite a few of them it's unlikely he could do any worse than the show did.

20. Ghost And Nymeria

The Starks' Direwolves were an important part of the show, since they were introduced in the very first episode, but ironically the four Direwolves that died were the lucky ones. They all had good death scenes, while neither of the two surviving Direwolves were treated very well.

Arya's Direwolf, Nymeria, had to leave in episode two of season one (she would've been killed for attacking Joffrey) and her fate was often a source of discussion among fans. Her reunion with Arya, in which she was shown leading a pack of wolves (which was often theorised to be the case) was a good scene, but she then just left again and was never mentioned thereafter.

Meanwhile, Ghost (Jon's Direwolf) kept disappearing for episodes at a time and in the widely maligned fourth episode of season eight, Jon just left Ghost with the Wildlings and didn't even say goodbye.

Yes, they were eventually reunited and Jon was much friendlier with Ghost then, but even so, Ghost had been mistreated throughout the last few seasons of the show by both Jon and the writers.

What Should've Happened:

Nymeria and her pack could've come back to help her former master during the Battle of Winterfell or something along those lines. As for Ghost, Jon should've treated him with far more respect.
