Game Of Thrones: 20 Awesome Characters Who Were TOTALLY Screwed Over
7. Varys
Conleth Hill, who gave one of the greatest performances in the entire show as arguably one of its best characters, has admitted that he wasn't entirely satisfied with the last couple of seasons of Game of Thrones. Who can blame him?
After all, Varys was once a brilliant schemer and strategist who got some of the show's best dialogue and improved every scene he was in, but then, much like Tyrion, he suddenly lost a lot of that intellect.
He didn't do an awful lot in seasons six, seven or eight and while he did get one of season eight's best scenes - in which he and Tyrion debated about whether or not to betray Daenerys - his ultimate fate left a lot to be desired.
He was discovered to have turned on Daenerys and was executed by her as a result, but here's the thing: this is Varys. He's possibly the smartest man in Westeros and he would've kept his scheme hidden. The Varys from earlier seasons would never have been caught.
As well as this, who was he writing to about Jon Snow's true identity? That's yet another dangling plot thread we'll never get an answer to.
What Should've Happened: He deserved a more heroic death, dying for what he'd always fought for: the realm. He could've sacrificed himself during the Battle of King's Landing, for example.
