Game Of Thrones: 20 Awesome Characters Who Were TOTALLY Screwed Over

8. Gendry

Remember when Gendry, the last Baratheon, was actually supposed to mean something?

There was a lot of confusion when he disappeared after season three and the reaction was one of excitement once he was confirmed to return in season seven, but if only we'd known how little there was to be excited about.

In seasons seven and eight, Gendry was pretty much inessential. That's not to say anything against the still highly engaging character or Joe Dempsie's performance, but if you removed him from the story nothing would change.

He fought beyond the Wall, fought in the Battle of Winterfell, slept with Arya in an ill-judged scene and unsuccessfully proposed to her in an even more cringe-worthy scene after being legitimised by Daenerys. He then returned in the council scene in episode six, in a mostly silent appearance and... that's it.

It feels like the only reason he was brought back was to stop fans wondering where he was.

What Should've Happened: As the last Baratheon, he should've been more involved in final battle for the throne. For example, he could've been attacked by Cersei and the other characters saving him could've been one of the season's set-pieces.

Alternatively, he could've played a bigger part in defeating the White Walkers; perhaps his skills as a blacksmith could've been put to use there.
