1. The Iron Throne Is Made Like The Book Demanded
If you're up to speed with your Game Of Thrones mythos, you'll know the story of the famous Iron Throne. The Throne sits as a remindered to past Targaryen dominance, and as a symbol showing how they took Westeros from its original squatters and turned it into the strange confederate monarchy it is today. To give you the short version, the Throne itself was created by Aegon The Conqueror, who had his dragon Balerion The Black Dread melt down all the blades into something resembling a seat. The whole thing carries poetic licence too, as it's meant to be uncomfortable to sit on as to give you a literal reminder of the difficulties of ruling. You might assume that when the time came to craft the most famous chair in Westeros, the crew might dial it back a little and cut some corners, perhaps using some fancy crafting techniques and deceptive painting to make it look an actual throne. Well, I hope that if this article has taught you anything, it's this the Thrones crew don't half-ass anything, meaning you can bet your bottom dollar that it's an actual Iron Throne. In fact, it was a creation of prop maker Gavin Jones, who pretty much followed the book instructions to the letter (although he did have to scale it down from this
pile of insanity), making the whole thing out of heated swords attached to a wooden frame. Yet obviously, we don't have a gigantic dragon to call on, so Jones had to make do with simple engineering know-how. Crafting the entire throne from beginning to the end took him two months, and frankly, I want to high-five the bloke for a job well done. So that's my favourite mind-blowing facts about Game Thrones.
