The theory that Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark are the real parents of Jon Snow is one that refuses to go away, and the show has seemed to have a bit of fun making little winks towards it. There were a number of little winks to it in season 5, with Barristan Selmy praising Rhaegar, Stannis refuting the idea of Ned fathering a bastard, and a conversation in the crypts of Winterfell between Littlefinger and Sansa, where they discussed the pair of possible star-crossed lovers. However, this wasnt anything new for the show, as they included a nod to it way back in the first season. During a conversation between Jon and Sam at The Wall, theres a shot of a wooden beam right next to the supposed Stark bastard. Carved into it? The letters R and L.
