Game Of Thrones: 25 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Need To See
20. Joffreys Sword
In season 4, Joffrey gets his undeserving mitts on one of the two blades made from Ned Starks great sword Ice, which was melted down, re-forged, and given to the King and his uncle Jaime. He asks the people what he should name it, because obviously every great sword needs a name, and settles on Widows Wail. Its a pretty suitable name, sounding exactly like youd expect from a little-bitch-pretending-hes-tough like Joff. Before that though a couple of names are shouted out: Stormbringer and Terminus. The former was the name of the weapon wielded by Elric of Melniboné in Michael Moorcocks fantasy saga, while the latter is a reference to Terminus Est, the blade belonging to Severian, the protagonist in Gene Wolfes The Book of the New Sun. Both, interestingly, are executioners swords.

A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
