Game Of Thrones: 25 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Need To See

20. Joffrey€™s Sword

In season 4, Joffrey gets his undeserving mitts on one of the two blades made from Ned Stark€™s great sword Ice, which was melted down, re-forged, and given to the King and his €˜uncle€™ Jaime. He asks the people what he should name it, because obviously every great sword needs a name, and settles on Widow€™s Wail. It€™s a pretty suitable name, sounding exactly like you€™d expect from a little-bitch-pretending-he€™s-tough like Joff. Before that though a couple of names are shouted out: Stormbringer and Terminus. The former was the name of the weapon wielded by Elric of Melniboné in Michael Moorcock€™s fantasy saga, while the latter is a reference to Terminus Est, the blade belonging to Severian, the protagonist in Gene Wolfe€™s The Book of the New Sun. Both, interestingly, are executioner€™s swords.
