Game of Thrones Season 8 is almost here. Given the show has been off our screens for almost two years, that's undoubtedly a cause of absurd levels of excitement, until the joy turns to ashes in your mouth when you realise that also means the end of Game of Thrones is almost here as well.

First airing back in 2011, the TV series has sped past the books and is going to deliver the ending to a story that, so far, George R.R. Martin has been unable to finish. It'll all get underway on April 14 at 9 pm for those in the United States (simulcast at 2 am on Monday 15 April in the UK), and then just a few too short weeks later, it's all going to be over.

The series has been building to its endgame since its very first scene, which introduced us to the White Walkers. The threat of the undead has ramped up year upon year, and now the stage is set for a battle between the living and the dead. It's going to be epic, emotional and, hopefully, pretty great as well. As we head into Season 8, especially after so long away, there's a lot of important details that've been revealed in the build-up, and even more that you need to remember as we hurtle into Game of Thrones' endgame.
