Game Of Thrones: 5 Best Moments From First Of His Name

5. The Hound Lays The Smackdown

We get another look into the adventures of Arya and the Hound this week, and the antagonistic nature of their relationship continues to grow. Arya takes time during their travels to practice water dancing with Needle. The Hound sees this and laughs; to him she looks ridiculous. Arya brings up Syrio Forel as defence. After all, he was apparently the greatest swordsman who ever lived. However, the Hound makes the valid point that he is dead and Meryn Trant is not, so how good of a swordsman could he be? This angers Arya, and she attempts to stab the Hound with Needle. She can€™t pierce his armour, and the Hound smacks her to the ground. Following their run in with the kindly father the last time we saw them, it is becoming apparent that the nature of Arya€™s relationship with the Hound is to serve as a lesson in harsh truths. Arya may have hardened through her terrible trials, but she is still hanging onto the ideals she was brought up with in Winterfell. The Hound is here to teach her that all that means nothing in the real world. You can claim to be the greatest swordsman who ever lived, but at the end of the day the man with better armour and a bigger sword always wins. It's another lesson is pragmatism. In a fight to the death, a person will do whatever it takes to survive, and if she is to survive, she will have to do the same.
