On The Show: After Sansa reveals her identity to Lord Royce and Lady Waynwood and tweaks the story of Lysa’s death to exonerate Littlefinger, the nobles agree to keep her secret for the sake of her safety as she departs the Eyrie with Littlefinger and Sweetrobin. When Littlefinger receives a mysterious message, he and Sansa depart Runestone. Rather than heading toward his lands at the Fingers as he informed Lord Royce, he and Sansa head west.

In The Books: Even following the death of Lysa, Sansa remains under her alias as Littlefinger’s bastard daughter Alayne Stone. When the inhabitants of the Eyrie are forced by the changing seasons to head down the mountain to a safer climate, Littlefinger – whose status as Lord Protector is contested by the lords and ladies of the Vale - confides in Sansa that he plans for her to wed the man next in line to inherit the Eyrie, reveal her identity as Sansa Stark, and use the swords that she acquires via marriage to claim her place as heir to Wintefell.

What It Could Mean: As with the abandonment of Sweetrobin at Runestone, Sansa and Littlefinger’s leaving the Vale without a word regarding Sansa’s marriage or Littlefinger’s status as Lord Protector indicate that the politics of the Vale may matter far less than the books have indicated.
