Game Of Thrones: 5 Ups And 5 Downs From The Dance Of Dragons
8. Aryas Set For Revenge - Up
Aryas adventures as Lanna of the Canals continue this week, wandering up and down the Braavos port selling her oysters, and plotting how best to slip the poison to her assassination target, the Thin Man. That is, until she spots Mace Tyrell arriving, and Meryn Trant along with him. Trant is, of course, on Aryas kill-list, providing some real inner-conflict for Arya. As herself, she obviously wants to murder him, but she cannot do that if she wishes to be a Faceless Man. She follows Trant to a brothel - where there is a surprising demand for seafood-based snacks - and sees him reject a number of whores because theyre too old. It briefly sets up the possibility of Arya offering herself to him, as a way of getting close enough to kill him, but then rejects that notion as a suitable girl is found. It does, however, plant the seed for how Arya can get her revenge on him, and crossing another name off the list is definitely something she deserves the chance to do, even if it goes against her training. While her becoming a deadly assassin is a tantalising prospect, it hopefully wont be at the cost of completely losing the characters true self, and perhaps a balance can be struck between the two.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
