Game Of Thrones: 5 Ups And 5 Downs From Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken

1. The €˜Black Wedding€™ Night - Down

Here it is, this season€™s big, controversial moment that has caused widespread debate and more than a little outrage. On their wedding night, we see Ramsay and Sansa in their chambers, where they discuss Sansa€™s virginity, and it begins to dawn on her just how sick and twisted her new husband really is. Ramsay then proceeds to rape his bride, forcing Theon/Reek to watch on. We keep waiting for Sansa to reveal she has a weapon to defend herself, or for Theon to save the day, but instead can only watch on horrified as it unfolds. It€™s undoubtedly an uncomfortable scene to watch, and the anger at it is understandable, especially as the show seems to go back to rape time and again, without any real consequences for the offender. On the other hand, rape is very much established as being part and parcel of this world, not being as major a crime as it is in the real world. It€™s also a show where we see - or know of - beheadings, castration, and countless other vicious, despicable acts. The big hope is that this time we do see consequences, especially as the show had invested in Sansa€™s development in learning to play the game. Hopefully there€™s going to be some sweet revenge served up to Ramsay, and that this serves as more than just torture porn.
