Game Of Thrones: 5 Ups And 5 Downs From Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken

9. Bronn & Jaime v Sand Snakes - Down

The pairing of Bronn and Jaime has proven to be an excellent one thus far, both this season en route to Dorne, and last when the sellsword retrained Jaime to use his left hand. Meanwhile, much has been anticipated from the Sand Snakes, who have been devising their plans against the duo once they arrive, largely derived from the fact they are the daughters of Prince Oberyn, one of the best characters the show (and the book) has given us, and a deadly warrior to boot. Plus, Game of Thrones is a show that really knows how to deliver a fight sequence, something we€™ve already seen this season. We€™ve even seen it from Jaime and Bronn. Surely this showdown would be fairly epic? It wasn€™t to be. For some reason, what should have been an interesting match-up - 3-on-2, contrasting fighting styles, men vs. women - ended up falling flat, save for the odd Bronn wisecrack. When the fight was interrupted by Areo Hotah, instead of being dismayed, there was more of a shrug. They seemed evenly matched, but there was no real sense of danger - save for a small cut to Bronn€™s arm, which may mean he€™s been poisoned if the Sand Snakes took (spear) tips from their father. Ultimately though, it was a rare case of Thrones not pulling off a fight scene, either through direction or acting or just a lack of investment in the Sand Snakes/the Dorne storyline as a whole.
