The last time Sandor Clegane was seen on the TV show, he was left begging Arya Stark to quickly end his life following a rather brutal fight with Brienne. Arya refuses to show mercy, and leaves The Hound to die a slow, painful death, or at least it would seem. Once again, his death wasn't conclusively seen on screen. This is fairly similar to the path trodden in the books, except that the fight happens at an inn with men who answer to his brother Gregor. While he wins that fight, his wounds become infected and Arya, as in the show, leaves him to die. In the books, Sandors Hound helm is taken and worn for a spree of killings; these are attributed to but not actually committed by him. Instead it is believed that The Hound is now working as a gravedigger at the monastery on the Quiet Isle. This is a part of Briennes journey, where she encounters the Elder Brother who confirms that The Hound is dead, but not necessarily Sandor Clegane, suggesting that the former is just a part of his character and the death is not a literal one. Later, Brienne witnesses a gravedigger who is believed to be Clegane: a large man, bigger than Brienne, who wears a scarf that covers his face, and in what may be a knowing hint seems to have an affinity with dogs. It is also confirmed that his horse, Stranger, is on the Isle. While we havent seen this location come into play on the show, its not impossible that Briennes story takes her there, although that seems less likely now she has found Sansa. What is likely is that we havent seen the last of Sandor Clegane, even if we have seen the last of The Hound. Which dead or missing characters would you like to see return in Game Of Thrones? NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
