Game Of Thrones: 7 Simple Fixes That Would Have Improved Season 6
4. More Roose, Less Ramsay
The Problem: Ramsay Bolton was an effective villain in the sense that we really wanted to see him die. For three seasons now, we've seen him doing some truly vile things all as a way of proving he is the most evil person on the show.
But this season his antics got a little tiresome to the point that his actions felt dull. When he killed Osha it felt random. When he fed Walda to the dogs it felt gratuitous. And by the time he killed Rickon it was no longer shocking. Ramsay had become a violent cartoon villain and his death was as much a relief as it was satisfying.
The Solution: Ramsay's father, Roose was always a much more interesting villain and helped balance things when Ramsay started to get cartoonish. The elder Bolton was sorely missed for much of the season, especially for the Battle of the Bastards.
Roose is cold and calculating and him overseeing that battle would have added an extra sense of unease, because you know he'd have a trump card up his sleeve. Maybe he knew about the Knights of the Vale and had a solution? Maybe he had his own secret reinforcement?
The relationship between him and Ramsay could have come to its inevitable conclusion in the same fashion. Facing defeat, the Bolton's could start to fall apart from within leading Ramsay to finally payback his father for years of neglect. A much more fitting end for Roose.
