Game Of Thrones: 7 Storylines Season 5 Decided To Skip

1. The Ironborn

Before reading this one, it's worth mentioning that the casting announcements for Season 6 make it seem quite likely that at least part of this storyline will be featured. You have been warned.

King Balon Greyjoy dies when he falls from a rope bridge in the middle of a storm. At first it seems like an accident, but then his exiled brother returns to the Islands the next day. Euron 'Crow's Eye' Greyjoy is a notorious pirate who claims to have sailed to the smoking ruins of Valyria, and who comes to claim the Seastone chair for himself. With Theon's sister Asha (Yara in the show) and one of Balon's other brothers, Victarion, both vying to become ruler as well, a kingsmoot is called.

In an ancient Ironborn tradtion, the King is chosen by popular vote, and it seems likely that Victarion, who commands the Iron Fleet, will become King. But against all the odds, it is Euron who wins the crown - the others guess he used magic to convince everyone to crown him. Asha flees and Euron commands Victarion to sail from Mereen in order to find Daenerys and bring her back as his Queen.

We get introduced to the Ironborn through Theon, but once he's captured we don't see much of them. Then suddenly Asha, Victarion and Aeron (another of Balon's brothers) all get POV chapters. The ironborn have done very little fighting in the War of the Five Kings, which means they still have massive strength, especially at sea. With many different people converging on Mereen, it's odd that we didn't see any set up over the course of Season 5 €“ if they are featured in Season 6, it'll be interesting to see how they deal with the absent Daenerys.

Out of all the storylines, this one is the most likely to be featured in Season 6, and it'll be nice to see a new cast of characters thrown into the mix €“ something the show desperately needs.

Which skipped storylines do you hope make it to the show in Season 6? Any you're glad they missed out? Share your thoughts in the comments.
