Game Of Thrones: 8 Characters You Should Probably Hate (But Don't)
3. Sandor "The Hound" Clegane
The Hound, now deceased, was one of the most popular characters on Game of Thrones - a miserable old bastard with a burned face and a panache for filthy curse words. It makes no sense that anybody watching Game of Thrones should've liked the Hound, though. If you stumbled upon him in real life, chances are you'd likely feel the exact opposite way. And yet, due to the on-going adventures and subsequent banter he shared with Arya Stark over the course of season four, he became likeable in that, "Hey, he's not so bad, really!" kind of way. But he a murderer; he killed the Butcher's Boy, remember? He was never shy about telling Arya about all the terrible things that he'd done, either - including killing children (no doubt he committed his fair share of rapes, too). He actively liked killing and even admitted a number of times that he got a huge buzz from it. How much more does a character need to do for fans of the show to say, "Um, he's horrible"? But audiences have an affinity for characters who occupy the sort of strange territory that the Hound did for the sum of his lifespan on the show; he was a bad guy, but he was tolerant of Arya... which means that, for all his faults, audiences had to like him. And the writers intended as such; they wanted viewers to care. Well, they got their wish.
