Game Of Thrones: 8 Reasons 'Battle Of The Bastards' Is The Show's Most Overrated Episode
6. It's Packed Full Of Characters Making Unbelievable Decisions
All TV shows tend to contain moments where you find yourself thinking: "C'mon, nobody would ever do that in real life!" In most cases, we're able to accept a degree of creative license and move past it - but not when so many of them happen in such close proximity, which is how it goes down in this episode.
Firstly, we've got the now controversial moment where Rickon decides that the best thing for him to do whilst running across a field with Ramsay firing arrows at him is to go in a straight line. No matter how panicked Rickon was at this point, it's difficult to imagine anybody not choosing to zig-zag their way back to safety. C'mon!
Next up, Sansa's decision to hide the fact that she's in correspondence with Littlefinger; that there was a good chance he would come and save the day... well, it just didn't feel realistic, did it? Even if Sansa doesn't quite trust Jon at this stage (or his tactical prowess), it seems unlikely she wouldn't say anything at all.
Then there's the brief part towards the end of the episode, where Ramsay has a perfect opportunity to fire an arrow into Jon Snow but chooses to shoot a fatally wounded Wun Wun in the eye instead. Ramsay isn't an honourable person; he's a psycho and he absolutely would have opted for Jon at this point.
You can choose to just ignore moments like this, of course; many people are likely to read the aforementioned criticisms and say: "Who cares?" From a writing perspective, though, it's pretty shoddy going - especially for an episode as critically-acclaimed as 'Battle of the Bastards'. Too many and it starts to kill the immersion.
