Game Of Thrones: 8 Ways Season 6 Spoilt The Winds Of Winter (And 3 It Didn't)

2. Doran Martell Will Have A Bigger Role

Things got a little meta in the Seaosn 6 premiere, when the showrunners essentially acknowledged how much of a mess they'd made of the Dorne storyline by stabbing Doran and Trystane Martell to death, ending the Dorne storyline up until the season finale. There, Ellaria and the Sand Snakes - along with Olenna Tyrell - join forces with Varys, Tyrion, and Daenerys, to help her in her quest to take Westeros, and thus defeat their big enemy, Cersei Lannister.

The issue here is that it's very different from the books. The biggest mistake the show made with Dorne was omitting Arianne Martell, who is by far the most interesting character in the storyline (although ruining the Sand Snakes didn't help either). It means that while we're going to see Dorne cut down to supporting players of Daenerys on the show, we should see a bit more political scheming from them in the books.

Doran sent his son Quentyn to win Dany's favour in the books, but he ended up killed by dragons. Now he's sent Arianne to investigate the alleged Aegon Targaryen, son of Prince Rhaegar, who has made his way to Westeros. This is also who Varys is lending his support to in the books, and while there's no confirmation yet on whether he's real or not (although 'Faegon' does seem more likely) it means that Dorne will be involved in that storyline, without any plot to murder Doran by Ellaria and the Sand Snakes, and continue to be a better story than it is in the show.
