Game Of Thrones: 9 Awful Moments That Were Way Worse In The Books

9. Tyrion Kills Shae

On Game Of Thrones, our favourite Imp is met with a difficult decision as he takes the life of Shae, a prostitute he fell in love with, who he finds naked on his father's bed after she testified against him. On the show, Shae doesn't say anything and they immediately wrestle on the bed, which ends in him strangling her to death. In the books, this plays out a little differently, and is quite an uncomfortable read for fans, because it makes Tyrion seem heartless for killing an unarmed woman in a vulnerable position. When you read from Tyrion's perspective, you learn that after his conversation with Jaime (another way the books are harsher is the way it alters how you look at Jaime after this scene) about the first love of his life, Tysha, not actually being a whore but a crofter's daughter, he is out to seek revenge - at first, it was only to kill his father. This rage was fuelled once he found Shae lying naked with the Hand€™s chain of office around her neck in his father's chamber. Shae then tried to explain to him that Cersei made her say all those things against him in court, but regardless, Tyrion strangled her with the chain he once wore. Fans don't know if Shae was telling the truth or not, and we might never know, unless George R.R. Martin includes it in the next book, but there might be hope yet since Sibel Kekilli (the actress who plays Shae), was seen on set for Season 6 of the show.
