Game Of Thrones: 9 New Characters Set To Appear In Season 7
8. Priest
Description: Priest, in his 60s. “He’s a venerable priest with moral authority and gravitas. The show is seeking a white actor, using an RP accent, with characterful face for this part. He’s scheduled to shoot one week, from September 22nd.”
Who It Could Be: Again, the RP indicates somewhere in the South, so perhaps King's Landing again. There's almost zero religious presence in the city, since Cersei blew up the Sept of Baelor, but you can't keep religion down. She's also a canny enough operator to realise the usefulness of having Faith on her side, so long as it's someone she can bend to her will, which is where it all went wrong with the High Sparrow.
The sticking point there is the moral authority. It doesn't sound like someone who'd do the bidding of a woman who just killed numerous members of the Seven. So the alternative here is Oldtown, which should become a more important location. That means fleshing it out with more characters, and since it's a place of intelligence and a higher class, it fits someone would speak RP there, and it'd wouldn't be a stretch to have Septons about.
Getting into the realm of wishful - but still plausible - thinking, they could be using priest as a cover-up for Maester. There wouldn't be any need to do this for any ordinary Maester, but one character who should appear this season is Archmaester Marwyn, aka Marwyn the Mage, who Sam meets in the books (again though, his moral authority is questionable). Would one week be enough for Marwyn? Given they've tended to use the Sam storyline sparingly so far, just maybe (but again, there's a sense of wishfulness here).
