For all the complaints that The Long Night didn't kill enough main characters, it would be wrong to suggest that all Game Of Thrones is is a bloody battlefest that fetishises war and death. In actual fact, hardly any major characters have fallen permanently during the show's biggest battles.
That said, they are a staple part of the show's armoury and of HBO's commitment to spectacle and they're often the most exhilarating sequences in the show's run. Even when they're less packed with nuanced story, there's something incredible about watching dragons, wights and mere men clashing swords.
